Organic Produce

Quinta das Colmeias is and has always been a pioneer in the field of organic farming on Madeira. Fully organic since 1998, certified and regulated by Ecocert, the farm produces a variety of fruit,vegetables and aromatic herbs throughout the year as well as rearing free range organic chickens and sheep.
The mission behind the farm is to provide a sustainable, environmentaly balanced and healthier alternative to standard/ non organic agricultural products.
The organic produce is sold locally to organic stores as well as some selected hotels and restaurants.
Guests have full access to the farm and can of course purchase seasonal produce directly at a special price. Enjoy an authentic countryside holiday and make the most of the genuine atmosphere of a working farm.

Originally built in the 1940’s the house has been totaly refurbished, and fitted with all the services and facilities you could need for a fabulous break, but at the same time maintaining an authentic contryside spirit.

The large sitting room with wonderful mountain views easily sits 10 and has direct access to the varanda and lawn. Relax in some comfortable sofas after your day exploring the island, keep up with the news with cable TV, put on a DVD, or just listen to some music. The open fireplace is wonderful in the evening as the sun sets over the mountains.
A fantastic house for kids to run around they can enjoy their own games room, with plenty of space, a table for games and drawing and colour TV.

The Dinning room which also sits 10 shares the mountain views and is is right next to the fully fitted kitchen, for easy hassle free self catering, equipped with all modern facilities allowing you to cook up some fabulous meals with no trouble at all.

Make the most of our seasonal fresh organic produce available at a special price for guests. For an alfresco option have a barbeque outside and have a go at making a delicious local espetada. Don’t you don’t feel like cooking?! No problem, there are quite a few restaurants only 5 minutes drive from the house.

The House sleeps 8 comfortably with extra beds for kids as well as cots for babies, 4 large double room on the top floor 2 with direct access to the covered varanda. The rooms share two bathrooms and there is also a WC on the ground floor.

Freerange Organic Chickens and Lamb

One of the highlights at Quinta das Colmeias, aand a favourite with the kids is the chance to see a real working farm.

Quinta das Colmeias produces a limited quantity of free range organic Chickens and Lamb under fully certified conditions. Available for Individuals as well as Restaurants. Allowed to roam around stress free, our Free range Organic Chickens and Lamb are an excellent source of clean and healthy proteins, with incomparable taste and without the ‘additives’ and conditions used to produce industrial livestock and poultry.
